She’s not your average girl-next-door! Tiera Skovbye, who plays Polly in the CW’s fan-favorite drama Riverdale, takes on a new role in the thriller Summer of 84 as Nikki, the older next-door neighbor of protagonist Davey and his crew of teen boys. She recently caught us up on her new film, her dream role—and, of course, Season 3 of Riverdale!     ///by Daisye Rainer

On her newest film Summer of 84 and her character Nikki:  “Fun, suspenseful, surprising! Summer of 84 is a thriller about a group of boys who go on an adventure to see if their next-door neighbor is a serial killer. And I play their cute girl next door, who initially you think is one-dimensional, but as the movie goes on, you see there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye. I think it’s really cool, she’s a little bit older than the boys and maybe a little wiser, but she isn’t just the sexualized girl-next-door. There’s more to her and her friendship that matters.”

On the best part of working on Summer of 84: “What was really cool about this one was that it was a bit smaller than other productions I’ve worked on. From the writers to the directors, everybody was there to make the best version of this movie they possibly could, and it was very clearly a passion project for everybody involved. And I think that’s what made it so special. It wasn’t just make the movie…it was ‘Let’s see how good of a movie we can make.’”

On what to expect in Season 3 of Riverdale: “Polly’s back, which is very fun! People have been like ‘What is this farm that you kept going away to…’ but not a lot of information, and I think that gets explored a lot more this season, which is very cool.”

On her favorite part of playing Polly: “Polly has been very mysterious. In Season 1, it was a lot about Jason and her coming to terms with him being murdered, then her having to deal with the fact that she was going to be a mother on her own—and I think that that could have been it for Polly. But they created this really cool, mysterious aura about her and this farm. I think this air of mystery about her is really interesting, and for me that’s really fun because I get to play with the audience, and they never really know what’s going to happen.”

On her ideal character to portray: “Sometimes actresses that are stunning [like Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron] don’t often get to play the grittier, the more damaged, the dirtier characters. So eventually, I would love to get to play a character that I get to transform myself physically and delve into a really dark, twisted person.”

Summer of 84 arrives on VOD and Digital HD on 8/24.
