There are lots of ways to describe Bea Miller: she’s fashion-forward, crazy talented and an all-around girls’ girl. What’s one thing the X-Factor star isn’t? Fake. In fact, this is one celeb who has her priorities in check, and we could definitely learn a little something from her. The 17-year-old singer/songwriter prides herself on being authentic, relatable and real. She’s the kind of friend you could come to when you have a problem, and she wouldn’t blow it off or sugarcoat it.

Showing off her true self, flaws and all, is what makes Bea different. It’s important to her to be real with her fans and friends so they know the honest-to-goodness Bea. That’s why she is so excited for 3 Musketeers’ #ThrowShine campaign, which does the opposite of throwing shade by spreading positivity instead.

Bea tosses around those good vibes like confetti, but she also knows that when something in life is getting you down, it’s better to be honest and deal with the problem than to pretend to be okay when you’re not. The sentiment shows through in Bea’s cover of “This Little Light of Mine,” which she recorded for the campaign.

If you haven’t listened to Bea’s first album yet, put it at the top of your list. Not an Apology came out in early 2015, after Bea competed on Season 2 of The X-Factor and returned from touring with Demi Lovato. Since then, she’s opened on tour for Fifth Harmony and Selena Gomez, experiences she holds close to her heart. Bea remembers feeling like she had a home-away-from-home family in Selena and her band. “We all got to know one another, and it was fun seeing everyone and feeling comfortable with them.”

Bea’s single “Yes Girl” dropped a few months ago, and gives us a little taste of her upcoming album, which she hopes will come out in 2017. Never without her songwriting notebook, Bea wanted the tracks on the album to be personal and retrospective—they were all inspired by events in her life.
