You may know her better as Mariana Foster, the girly girl who sometimes lets her naivete get the best of her, but Cierra Ramirez showed us a different side when we chatted with the Fosters star. Her friendliness and openness gave us an inside look into her role on ABC Family’s The Fosters, particularly in this week’s episode “Clean,” airing Monday 7/22 at 9:00 EST/PST.

Without giving too much away, what scene did you most enjoy filming for the upcoming episode, “Clean,” that we can look forward to seeing on Monday?

Oh, that’s a good question. Definitely I would have to say I like to think that I’m very dark so I love the emotional scenes—those are my most favorite no matter what. I think definitely the scene where Mariana’s secret kind of unravels and she does come clean.

What is your favorite thing about your character?

I love her wittiness because that’s something that I don’t have, so I love being able to vicariously live through her with her comebacks. I love the whole idea that she is a 15-year-old girl, she’s very optimistic and she’s gonna get into trouble—she’s making mistakes in her life and she’s learning from them. But at the end of the day she has a great heart so that’s what I love about her in my eyes.

What do you think makes Mariana a relatable character?
I think the idea of her coming from this fostering background and wanting to know who she is and what that means to her and her biological mother. I’m sure lots of people can relate to that and I’m hoping people can.

What can we expect from Mariana during the rest of this season?

Her secret is going to unravel so with that will come some consequences of her actions, so you’ll see her kind of go through that.

If you could play any other character on the show, who would it be?

Well, I just love Jude. I have to say that I’m just obsessed with him. I mean obviously I couldn’t play him because I’m a girl (but) I just I love the character of Jude. I love his storyline and I just think he’s the sweetest little lump of sugar ever. I’m just addicted to him.

What has been the best thing about being part of The Fosters?
I would definitely have to say filming with the cast and crew. It’s just been such a blessing to wake up every morning and work with such amazing people who are so talented and love this project as much as I do—it’s so great. From the get go we just bonded so easily and we’re all family. We’re not only cast members, we’re also family.
