Excited for summer? We are, too! Before you step out into the summer rays make sure you know how to correctly apply your sunscreen to prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging.
Pick the right sunscreen.
Buy one that has an SPF of 30+, protects against both UVA and UVB rays, and is waterproof.
If your sunscreen is under SPF 30, you’re at a higher risk for sun-related diseases.
Apply sunscreen before hitting the beach.
You need at least 15 minutes for the sunscreen to absorb fully into your skin.
If you apply while tanning, the sunscreen isn’t completely protecting you.
Don’t forget the “hidden areas.” They burn, too!
Make sure you apply to all skin—even your ears, tops of your feet, scalp, neck, lips and back.
Find a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher to throw in your beach bag for proper lip protection.
Reapply, reapply, reapply!
Sunscreen wears off after two hours, or sooner if you’re swimming or sweating excessively.
