How You Know Her: This activist/feminist-turned-author started a movement with the #1000BlackGirlBooks campaign. We love how she has turned her passion for reading into an awareness of the need for more diverse books.
“I’m working to create a space where it feels easy to include and imagine black girls and make black girls like me the main characters of our lives.”
Her advice for girls with big dreams? Follow your passion. Use what you love to make a difference in the world. Your thoughts and ideas are important and they can help you!
Her life motto? Don’t worry about being the best, just do your best! It could be writing, schoolwork, or sports. My best is all I can do!
What’s next for her in 2018? My upcoming book tour is the biggest thing on my agenda for 2018. I want to make sure my message reaches administrators, and I would like to see more changes in the readings assigned to kids in school!
