Actress Mandy Moore, star of NBC’s new drama This Is Us, has joined the cast of The Darkest Minds, a film adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s popular YA series.

Moore, 32, has been cast as Cate, a doctor at a camp where children with supernatural abilities are held.

The cast so far includes Hunger Games alumna Amandla Stenberg, who will be portraying Ruby; Harris Dickinson, cast as Liam; Miya Cech, as Zu; and Skylan Brooks, playing Chubs.

Moore received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as Rebecca Pearson in This Is Us. She has starred in movies including Because I Said So and voiced the beloved Disney princess Rapunzel in Tangled.

The Darkest Minds is set in a futuristic America, where children who survived a nationwide pandemic are held by the government in closed-off camps. After Ruby, the protagonist, manages to escape, she bands together with a group of runaway teens to take down the government operative.

Fans of The Darkest Minds are anxiously awaiting this film adaptation, and are excited to see Moore join the cast. The movie will begin filming mid-March and is set to wrap up around June.
