Olivia Wright is out to “shoe the world” and she wants you to help. The 17-year-old Tennessee girl has already collected and distributed over 100,000 pairs of shoes across America and abroad, but the need is still great.
Olivia makes it happen through Help Us Give Shoes (HUGS), a non-profit organization she founded when she was just nine years old. For the past eight years she has organized drives to collect gently used footwear. The shoes have gone to needy children and adults in 10 US cities and 13 foreign countries. Olivia was honored recently by the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for her outstanding service to others.
It’s easy to get involved at whatever level you want, from donating some of the shoes that are gathering dust in your own closet (c’mon, you know you have some!) to becoming a HUGS ambassador and organizing a shoe drive of your own for the organization. Click here to find out how.
“The ability to change the world is at every single person’s fingertips,” says Olivia. “I fully believe that with a vision for good and hard work, everyone is capable of world-changing awesomeness!”
Demonstrate some world-changing awesomeness of your own—donate shoes or dollars and make a difference in someone’s life.
